Plateau traditional ruler regains freedom after four days in captivity

The Sum Pyem of Gindiri, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state,  Dr. Charles Mato, has regained his freedom after four days in captivity by kidnappers.
Spokesman of the Plateau state police command, Gabriel Ubah, confirmed his release on Friday in Jos, the state capital.
According to him, Mato was released Friday morning unhurt and was reunited with his family.
The traditional ruler was kidnapped by gunmen at his residence on December, 26, 2021.
His abductors were reported to have demanded for N500m ransom for his release. The police spokesman did not say whether a ransom was paid before the traditional ruler was freed.
Commander of the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), had earlier disclosed that some suspects were arrested in connection with the incident when members of the Plateau Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), paid him a visit recently.
