NBC suspends Channels TV

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended Channels Television for violating the broadcast code. The station was also fined N5 million for the offence.
The NBC, in a letter signed by its Acting Director-General of the NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba and addressed to
the Managing Director of Channels Television, said on April 25, 2021 at 7pm, the television station broadcast a live programme of which it allowed a leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, (IPOB) to make secessionist and inciting declarations on air without caution or reprimand by the station contrary to the broadcast code.
The NBC also accused the station of allowing the guest speaker to make derogatory, false and misleading statements about the Nigerian army, despite being proscribed by a court of law.
