Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, has asked traditional rulers to join hands with security agencies and the state government in combating crime in the state.
The governor spoke on Wednesday when the emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Bauchi, to mark Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Mohammed called on the emir to intervene in ensuring that Bauchi is rid of all vices and crimes for peaceful coexistence in the state.
He also urged the traditional ruler to caution his subjects against acts that are detrimental to peaceful coexistence in the the state.
“I am calling on you as a father in Bauchi state to please lend your voice to all in position of authority so that there will be effective security network for a peaceful coexistence.
“All these things happening that are not pleasing, like rape, robbery, indiscipline should be corrected for us to live in a safe environment.
“We thank you and your traditional rulers, imams and pastors for your wise counsel and prayers which has made it possible for us to live in a secure environment in the state.
“We will continue to ensure that we assist the security agencies in order to stay in a safe and secure state”, the governor said.
While thanking the emir for the visit, Mohammed said his administration was aware of the hardship being faced by the majority of the populace and promised to do everything possible to alleviate the hardship.
He said his administration will not prioritize construction of roads or building of hospitals at the detriment of the welfare of citizens.
