Kefas approves ₦1billion for  payment of backlog of gratuities to retirees

Taraba state governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has approved the release N1billion for immediate payment of gratuities to retirees in the state.
<span;>The retirees  had not been paid for over 10 years.
<span;>The Special Assistant (SA) to the governor on the Media and Digital Communication, Emmanuel Bello, disclosed this in a statement  on Monday in Jalingo, the state capital.
<span;>Bello said  the governor who directed the state ministry of finance to immediately effect the payment, regretted that the retirees have had to suffer for so long without getting their entitlements.
<span;>”Governor of Taraba state, Dr Agbu Kefas, has approved the sum of One Billion Naira for the payment of gratuity backlog.
<span;>”The last time any payments were made was in 2011.
<span;>The statement said, “Governor Kefas, while signing the approval, directed the ministry of finance to ensure immediate payments of the overdue entitlements and regretted the delays and said his government would not abandon workers who had served their fatherland diligently.
<span;>”Apart from the initial One Billion Naira, the governor also approved that a sum of 200 Million be set aside each month to offset the backlog and continue the payments.
<span;>”This is partly in fulfilment of his campaign <span;>nd gratuity in spite of the huge backlog. “The governor noted that it is unrighteous to deny workers who have slaved over the years <span;>promises as Dr Agbu Kefas, during the campaign, promised to offset pensions a their entitlements and noted that his government will continue to service and make prompt payments of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.
<span;>”This gesture will effectively end many years of anguish and frustration of aged pensioners”.
