IGP recommends suspension of Abba Kyari

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Usman Baba, has recommended the suspension of Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) over his alleged link with Ramon Abbas, a fraudster, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
The suspension is to pave way for investigations into allegations that Hushpuppi bribed Kyari to arrest a fellow fraudster, Vincent Chibuzo.
The allegations were contained in a US court documents where Hushpuppi is standing trail for millions of dollars scam.
In a statement on Sunday, Force spokesman, Frank Mba, said, the IGP in a letter dated July 31 and addressed to the Police Service Commission, explained that the suspension of Kyari is in line with the internal disciplinary processes of the force.
The statement said the suspension is expected to create an enabling environment for the police Special Investigation Panel to carry out its investigations into the weighty allegations against Kyari without interference.
“The suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of the officer”, the statement added.
The police spokesman said the probe panel will be led by the , Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-Charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), Mr. Joseph Egbunike.
“The SIP, inter alia, is to undertake a detailed review of all the allegations against DCP Abba Kyari by the US Government as contained in relevant documents that have been availed of the NPF by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“The SIP is also to obtain detailed representation of DCP Abba Kyari to all the allegations levelled against him, conduct further investigations as it deems fit and submit recommendations to guide further actions by the force leadership on the matter.”
