Gunmen kill retired airforce officer, abduct his two daughters

A former Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC), Mr. Zakari Umaru-Kigbu has been killed by gunmen. His two daughters were also abducted by the criminals.
The gunmen were said to have invaded his residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa state in the early hours of Sunday.
Family sources said the 60-year old retired Air Force officer served as the agent to Labaran Maku, a former information minister and one of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in Nasarawa state in the just concluded primaries of the party.
Maku later withdrew from the primary election.
The deceased was also said to be a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, lsa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, before the unfortunate incident.
Spokesman of the Nasarawa state police command, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident.
Nansel also confirmed the abduction of the two daughters of the deceased by the gunmen, adding that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
