Eight people have been killed by gunmen in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state.
The bandits were said to have opened fire at a mining site on Friday night, killing eight persons with several others who sustained injuries.
In a statement statement by Governor Simon Lalong, through his Director of Press, Makut Macham, condemned the killings,saying it is an attempt by criminals to destabilise the state and create fear among the people.
He warned that his administration will not condone attacks on innocent citizens.
The governor called on residents of the state to assist law enforcement agencies with useful information through the traditional institutions, vigilante groups and other associations in ensuring that the peace is maintained in the state.
The statement said, security agencies had been directed to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to justice.
The governor expressed condolences with the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of their souls.
