Gunmen abducts CAN chairman in Plateau

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau state, Rev. Fr. James Kantoma has been abducted by gunmen.
It was learnt that, Kantoma was abducted at his residence at Catholic Priest of St. Anthony’s Parish, Angware.
A resident of the area said the gunmen stormed the area on Sunday night, shooting indiscriminately as they headed straight to the residence of the priest .
Some youths in the area who were alerted about the incident were said to have chased the hoodlums in an attempt to rescue the CAN chairman, but the gunmen shot at them as they escaped into the bushes with the clergy man.
Confirming the incident, the Plateau state CAN chairman, Rev. Polycarp Lubo, called for prayers for the safe return of the priest.
He said, “we have not heard anything either from him or his abductors since he was taken away. “
The CAN chairman called on the government and security operatives to ensure the safe return of the cleric from his abductors.

Alabo Alfred also confirmed the incident, saying men of the anti- kidnapping unit of the command had been deployed to the community.
“Our men are already working to ensure the cleric regains his freedom and apprehend those behind the abduction,” he said.
