The People Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Yobe state in the 2019 elections, Ambassador Umaru Damagum has denied filing a suit seeking the removal of the state governor,
Mai Mala Buni.
Damagum and Alhaji Baba Aji, his running mate during the election, were reported to have filed the suit through Emeka Etiaba (SAN), maintaining that Buni ceased to be a governor from the day he accepted to act as the caretaker committee chairman of the APC.
However in an interview on Thursday with The Nation newspapers, in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, Damagum said he only got to know about the suit while watching the news on television.
Damagun, Nigeria’s former envoy to Romania and Bulgaria added he has not contacted or briefed any lawyer to institute a case on his behalf on the matter in question.
He said he was suspecting some disgruntled members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP elements may be behind the suit to unsettle Gov. Buni following the last ward congress.
“I think some members of my party the PDP were not happy with the success of the last state congress that we did in the State.
“For your information, there is a court case at the Damaturu High Court and I suspect it’s a ploy to frustrate that case.
” I also think that this may be coming from the APC members themselves looking at the gang up against Gov. Buni ,” Damagum said.
He said further that he has asked his lawyers to investigate whoever is behind the suit and get back to him.
He also disclosed that his running mate during the governorship election had since decamped to the APC.
“It is laughable that those who instituted that case are not aware that my running mate has since decamped to APC”, he said.
