The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), has urged the newly appointed acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Baba to focus on proactive measures in tackling crime in the country.
In a statement congratulating Baba on his appointment, Chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau state, Mr. Simon Lalong, assured that  the NSGF will support the police chief to succeed in providing proactive policing that “deters crime, effectively tracks criminals and generally attracts the goodwill of the public.”
Lalong said the forum remained “committed to community policing and any other measure that will lead to securing our region which has been bedeviled by different forms of insecurity.”
“We must work together to adopt new measures that will not only enable us to overcome these challenges, but also remain on top of the situation by preventing criminals from carrying out their nefarious activities,” he added.
He stressed that the NSGF is particularly concerned that the farming season is at hand, noting however that, many farmers might be discouraged from cultivating their farms because of the activities of bandits, kidnappers and insurgents.
He urged the acting IGP to ensure an enabling environment for farmers to return to their farms.
