Popular cultural musician, Dantala Dewan, has canvassed support for Nentawe Yilwatda, governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau state.
Addressing his fans on Saturday in Kaduna while performing at the “Pusdung”, a cultural festival organised by the Ngas nation from Kanke and Pankshin Local Government Areas of Plateau state, resident in Kaduna, Dewan said the Ngas nation should be supported to produce the governor of the state in 2023.
According to him, the Ngas nation, is the only major ethnic group that has not tested power in the state since the advent of democracy.
He noted that their Mwaghavul brothers in Mangu LGA, are currently occupying the position of the deputy governor, stressing that, justice and fairness demands that the Ngas people should produce the governor in 2023.
The governorship of Plateau is zoned to the Central Senatorial District, comprising of Bokkos, Mangu, Kanke, Pankshin and Kanam LGAs.
The candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Caleb Mutfwang, is from Mangu.
Dewan said, if Yilwatda is elected governor, Plateau will witness uncommon development.
He said the Ngas nation is noted for producing selfless and competent leaders who performed very well.
For instance, he said, former military head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, who rule for nine years and Joseph Gomwalk, military governor of the then Benue Plateau state, provided exemplary leadership that stand them out till date.
According to him, no ethnic group on the Plateau had suffered like the Ngas nation.
“Let me tell you, no tribe on the Plateau will say that they have suffered more than the Ngas people. I will say this anywhere!
“General Yakubu Gowon, a Ngas man, was Head of State since the infancy of Nigeria, when Nigeria was five to six years, Ngas people kept Nigeria together- Go on with one Nigeria.
“J.D. Gomwalk (Governor of Benue Plateau), came and kept Plateau very strong. Nobody has beaten his record (of achievements as governor).
“He was a visionary leader and he achieved so much, his legacies are very visible till today.
“Gowon and Gomwalk were selfless Ngas leaders who were fair and just to all.
“We have very competent people in Ngas land that kept Nigeria together.
“I am not campaigning for anybody, I am making a case for my people. I know that we have our political differences…”
