Former minister of sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung has called on the federal government to investigate the collapse of the recently installed water tank and tower in Mabudi community, Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau state.
According to Dalung, one person was killed, while three others sustained injuries in the unfortunate incident which occurred on Sunday May 9, 2021.
A couple of weeks ago, the community was agog following the test running of the Water Treatment Plant, a project which was initiated by the federal government to address the problem of clean drinking water in the area.
Dalung, who comes from the area, while lamenting the tragic incident on his Facebook page, expressed his condolences to the community, especially, the families of those affected.
He said he had requested the federal government for a full scale investigation into the ugly incident with the view to forestalling future occurrence.
“On this sad note, I convey my sympathy and condolences to the families and the entire Mabudi community (Langtang South LGA) over the collapse of a recently installed water tank and its tower being test run as part of the Water Treatment Plant.
“While sharing in the grief over the sad incident, I pray God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.
“May Almighty God grant the family of the bereaved fortitude to overcome this moment of grief. Also I wish the injured speedy recovery.
“I have contacted the federal government and requested for a full scale investigation into this ugly incident with the view to forestalling future occurrence and to bring to book culpable culprits.
“Furthermore, I urge government to commence speedy reconstruction of the collapse structure. The government has responded accordingly,” Dalung wrote on Facebook.
The former minister also shared a letter of condolences by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to the community.
The letter dated May 10, 2021 and addressed to the Ponzhi Mabudi (the traditional ruler of Mabudi), was signed on behalf of the Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Suleiman Adamu, by the Director, Water Supply & PPP, Mr. B.A. Ajisegiri.
The ministry expressed its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the entire Mabudi Community over the “reported collapse of a water tank and its tower that led to the death of one person and injuring
two others on Sunday, 9th May, 2021.”
The letter also stated that the contractor who handled the project had been directed to ensure speedy reconstruction of the collapsed structure at his own cost to restore water supply services to the community.
“We share with the community in the grief over the incidence and pray that the Almighty God will grant the departed soul eternal rest, give fortitude to the bereaved family and speedy recovery to those that are injured.
“We have directed the contractor to bear the expenses arising from the unfortunate incident and ensure speedy reconstruction of the collapsed structure to restore water supply services to the community”, the letter stated.
