Court fixes July 17 to hear El-Rufai’s suit against Kaduna assembly

The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned hearing on a suite filed by Nasir El-Rufai, ex- governor of Kaduna state, against the Kaduna state House of Assembly to July 17.
Joined in the suit is the state’s Attorney General and commissioner for justice.
The former governor is challenging the report of a committee of the house which investigated contract awards, loans and all financial dealings under his eight year administration.
The report indicted El-Rufai of alleged corruption and the stealing N423 billion by his administration.
The former governor is praying the court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights to fair hearing and a declaration that the report is null and void.
At the commencement of hearing on Monday, Sani Katu (SAN), counsel to the House of Assembly, told the court that his client was in the process of filing a notice of preliminary objection, challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case.
Katu requested an extension of time to enable his client file all the applications on the case against his client by the applicant.
The plea was also advanced by the second defendant, Sule Shauaibu, (SAN), the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Kaduna State.
Sule Umoru, counsel to El-Rufai did not oppose the application for the extension of time.
The presiding judge, R.M Aikawa, adjourned the case to July 17th, 2024, to enable the respondents file all their applications including the substantive application.
