Court aquits Jang of N6.3bn fraud

Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, on Friday discharged and acquitted a former governor of the state, Jonah Jang, over the N6.3 billion corruption charges against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Jang was governor of Plateau state between 2007 to 2015.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Christy Dabup, also discharged, Yusuf Pam, former cashier in the office of the secretary to the Plateau state government would was co-defendant in the matter.
Jang and Pam were first arraigned in March 2018 before Justice Daniel Longji, on a 17-count charge bodering on misappropriation of N6.3bn belonging to the state government.
However, the case was handed over to Justice Dabup following the retirement of Longji, in December 2019.
Counsel to the EFCC,  Rotimi Jacobs, and Mike Ozekhome, defence counsel had adopted their final addresses on July 14, 2022.
However,the court ruled in favour of the defendants and discharged them.
There was wild jubilation at the court premises by supporters and well wishers of the former governor who were in court.
