The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has disowned the “clerics” who attended the unveiling of Kashim Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Joseph Hayab, chairman of the Kaduna state chapter of CAN, said the supposed Christian clerics who attended the programme appeared like Nollywood actors
CAN is opposed to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC, insisting that it does not reflect the diversity of Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview Hayab said, “those Tinubu paraded as bishops were people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear bishops’ garments.”
“Take a closer look at their photo and you will see another Nollywood movie”, he added.
He said Nigerian Christians will not lose sleep over the Tinubu/Shettima Muslim presidential ticket.
“The people we saw at the unveiling of Shettima as the presidential running mate to Bola Tinubu paraded as Bishops are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear bishops garments.
He said the APC appears desperate, noting that the party had first claimed in a report that the Chairman of CAN in Borno state, endorsed Shettima, only for the story to be refuted by the CAN chairman.
Hayab said “there was another lie that Tinubu and his running mate were on their way to meet the CAN president one night”.
He urged Christians in the country to remain focused and conduct themselves in accordance with the constitution of the country by coming out to vote credible people in the 2023 general elections.
He said further said Tinubu was alleged to have met with Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on for the church refute the allegations.
“If Christians are not important why the desperation?” Hayab asked.
He said “Tinubu is free to hire machanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them, but it will not change the demand for fairness and justice that CAN is calling for.
“CAN appreciates that we are in a democracy, no need to do funny and dubious things just to proof a point because it will at the end bounce back.”
He called on “Tinubu’s team to do what is right and stop the drama.
“Because of desperation, the newly rope bishops took the shine off the occasion more than the candidate that was  unveiled, what an irony!”
He called on Nigerians to ensure they vote credible candidates in the 2023 general elections for the country
to take its place in the comity of nations.
