The Niger state police command has denied reports that bandits have threatened to invade M.I Wushishi housing estate in Minna, the state capital
Sources in the estate had alleged that the bandits, believed to be miners operating around the area attacked  the estate in broad daylight, breaking cars and windows of houses in broad daylight when most of the residents had gone to work.
The ciminals were said to have threatened to invade the estate and ordered residents to leave vacate their homes.
However, in a statement, the state police command dismissed the threat as untrue.
The statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said reports circulating in some social media and national dailies that bandits ordered residents of M.I Wushishi estate to vacate their homes or get killed is not true.
“It is important to clarify that on 02/09/2024 at about 1400hrs, a distress call was received that some artisan/illegal miners attempted to gain entrance into M.I Wushishi Estate, Minna for their illegal mining activities and the Estate residents resisted, which degenerated into attacking houses and vehicles in the estate, and led to loss of life of one of the miscreants”, the statement said.
According to Abiodun,”Police patrol teams led by DPO Maitumbi were mobilised to the scene, the miscreants were dispersed and normalcy was restored.
“Patrol teams have been stationed in the area to forestall reoccurrence, maintain calm and normalcy
“Therefore, it is very unfortunate to tag this incident as bandits related incident.
“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman urges members of the public to disregard this publication, as there was no such threat.
