Two clergy men- Evangelist Nuhu Bakwa and his pastor friend, abducted on Monday by gunmen in Bisichi, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state, have been freed by their abductors.
It was learnt that the two victims were released Thursday night after their relatives paid an undisclosed amount as ransom.
The abductors were said to have demanded a ransom of N10 million and had threatened to kill them if the money was not paid on time.
Family sources said the clergy men were released at about 8:30 pm on Thursday after the ransom payment.
The kidnappers were said to have dropped their victims at a filling station at Maraba Jama’a close to the NDLEA checkpoint -the same spot they were kidnapped
The clergy men were said to have been maltreated by their captors and were wounded and could not walk properly due to severe beatings.
They were said to have been taken to the hospital following their release.
When contacted the Plateau state police commissioner, Bartholomew Onyeka, said men of the Command were making concerted efforts to track down perpetrators of the incident.
He urged the people of the state to be wary of the undesirable elements and their internal collaborators in various communities engaging in the kidnapping.
He said, “Based on the study I have carried out, there is no case of kidnapping without an indictment. It must be somebody who might have known such a person personally. It is very reckless to stop somebody in the road and kidnap him; there must be prior information”, he said.
