At least 21 athletes from Kano state contingent to the just concluded National Sports Festival in Abeakuta, Ogun state, are feared dead, following a fatal accident on Saturday.
The Kano state commissioner for sports, Umar Faggie, confirmed that the auto crash occurred at the Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura LGA of the state.
The athletes were traveling in a bus belonging to the Kano state sports commission when the vehicle reportedly flipped off the bridge.
Survivors of the crash have been rushed to Kura general hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The number of injured persons was not been disclosed as rescue operations were still going on.
Kano state came 13th on the medals table at the games with 29 medals, including six gold.
