Another office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was set ablaze on Sunday in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo state by unknown persons.
The commission in a statement, by its spokesman, Mr. Festus Okoye, condemned the attacked on its offices.
Okoye said, the building was substantially burnt down, along with electoral materials, office equipment and furniture.
According to him, “INEC buildings, infrastructure and equipment are critical national assets that guarantee the continuity of electoral activities throughout the federation.
“Attacking these offices is not in the national interest and has the capacity of compromising electoral activities and the credibility of the democratic process.”
Just recently, the commission’s office in Ahiazu, Mbaise LGA also in Imo state was burnt.
The latest incident, brings the number of INEC offices that had been attacked in the South East to 12, following the growing incidents of attacks on security personnel and government establishments in the region.
